Hosting a game night at home with friends is one of the best ways to enjoy a nice evening without breaking the bank. But hosting a Black game night is a whole other ball game of fun!
Black game nights are all about celebrating Black culture, history, and entertainment. And there are tons of board games and card games to be played that focus on the beauty of the diaspora. Not only are they great conversation starters, but they’re also an opportunity for players to learn something new while having fun.
To make your next game night your best one yet, here are some super fun games that celebrate the culture:
Lyrically Correct
Guess That Groove
For the people who like to dance, Guess That Groove is where you shine! To play, one person picks a popular dance — i.e., the Electric Slide or the Dougie while the rest of the players try to guess what it is. If anyone guesses it right, they get a point. But if no one guesses it correctly, the person miming the dance gets the point instead.
Hood Charades
If you need help getting the party going, Hood Charades is the perfect game for the job. In this charades-style game, players act out popular Black cultural references, from movies and TV shows to famous pop culture moments. The person who gets the most answers right wins.
Yo Mama Jokes Battle
Light-hearted teasing is a huge part of Black culture, making Yo Mama jokes a serious staple in the community.
Keep in mind that teasing can turn nasty really quickly, so in order to have a proper Yo Mama battle at home, make sure to keep it friendly. Let your guests know that all jokes should be in good fun, nothing too harsh. Then, take turns cracking jokes on each other and enjoy some good-natured banter with your buds.

Black Card Revoked
Black Card Revoked is like your typical trivia game but with a lot more fun and cultural flair. Each player draws a card with a multiple-choice or fill-in-the-blank question about Black culture. Correct answers earn points, but wrong answers might cost you points—or even your “Black card.” The player with the highest score or most cards at the end wins the game.
Trap Bingo
You don’t have to be a grandma to play this super fun bingo game! Trap Bingo is all about the good vibes.
The goal of the game is like regular bingo: the first person to fill up a line wins. But rather than waiting for numbers to be called, you and your friends will listen to snippets of songs being played, then mark off the bingo squares that match.
Timeline Twister
For this next game, the bigger the group, the better. To play Timeline Twister, one person starts by naming a famous Black historical figure or event. Then, the next person has to add another figure or event that’s related, and so on and so forth.
Each player should add something new without repeating or hesitating. But if someone can’t think of something, they’re out. The last person standing wins!
