These simple sugar cookies are perfect for any occasion and can be easily customized, though they're delicious all on their own. Here's a step-by-step guide.
Butter provides flavor, richness, and moisture to the cookies. It also contributes to the texture, helping the cookies to spread properly while baking.
Granulated sugar sweetens the cookies and contributes to their texture. It also helps to create a crisp exterior.
Flour provides structure and stability to the cookie dough. It absorbs moisture and helps bind the other ingredients together.
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it to prevent sticking.
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. You can use a hand mixer or a stand mixer for this step.
Gradually add the all-purpose flour to the butter and sugar mixture. Mix until well combined and a dough forms. The dough should be soft and slightly sticky but manageable.
Take small portions of the dough and roll them into balls, about 1 inch (2.5 cm) in diameter. You can also use a cookie scoop for more evenly sized cookies.
Place the dough balls onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them a couple of inches apart so they don't merge during backing process.
Using the bottom of a glass or the palm of your hand, gently flatten each dough ball to about 1/4 inch (0.6 cm) thickness.
Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown.
Once baked, remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes. Then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Once cooled, your 3-ingredient sugar cookies are ready to enjoy! Serve them with a glass of milk or package them up for gifting.
