Craving a rich, creamy Alfredo sauce? Learn how to make it from scratch with simple ingredients and easy steps!
For a delicious alfredo sauce, you’ll need just a few ingredients: butter, heavy cream, garlic, Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, salt and pepper.
Melt 1/2 cup of butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Use unsalted butter for better control over the flavor, adding salt later as needed.
Once the butter is melted, add 2-3 cloves of minced garlic. Sauté the garlic for about 1-2 minutes until it’s fragrant but not brown.
Slowly pour 1 cup of heavy cream into the butter and garlic mixture, stirring constantly. Let it gently simmer for 5-6 minutes, allowing the flavors to blend.
Add 1 to 1½ cups of freshly grated Parmesan cheese, whisking until it melts and blends smoothly.
Add salt and black pepper to taste. Start with a pinch of salt and a few grinds of pepper, tasting and adjusting as you go.
Alfredo sauce should be thick enough to cling to pasta yet smooth and pourable. If it’s too thick, add a splash of cream or milk; if too thin, let it simmer longer.
Serve Alfredo sauce with fettuccine, which holds the sauce well, or try penne, linguine or even gnocchi. Toss the pasta in the sauce, ensuring each noodle is coated.
Garnish with fresh parsley and serve your pasta immediately while the sauce is still warm and creamy. This dish is best enjoyed fresh, as the sauce can thicken over time.
