Quick and Easy Homemade Dog Treats

Store-bought treats can be costly and it's tough to be certain about what's in them. Homemade treats are a great way to save some money and ensure you know what your dog is eating.

All you need is oats (ground into a powder using a food processor or blender), equal parts peanut butter and banana, or other dog-friendly fruits such as pumpkin or unsweetened apple sauce.

3-Ingredient Cookies

Combine to create a dough which can be rolled out and cut into cookies.

Bake at 350°F for about 20-25 min. Allow the cookies to cool completely before treating your furry friend.

If you want to get even more creative, a dog friendly frosting is super simple, just mix about a tbsp of cornstarch with ½ a tsp of honey, followed by slowly mixing in 2 tsp of water.

There are countless ways to customize this treat to suit your dog's preferences. Simply grab a silicone mold and fill it with ingredients your pup loves – such as carrots or apples slices.

Frozen Dog Treats

Top up the mold with either water or a plain greek yogurt and pop into the freezer. This typically takes about 2-3 hours depending on the size of the mold.

If you’re looking for something that may last a bit longer, a twist is a great way to achieve this. And the process is fairly simple.

Chew Twists

Start with pumpkin puree (make sure there are no added spices), and half as much natural peanut butter. For extra flavour you can also add in a touch of cinnamon and/or honey.

Next mix in flour, adding in only a little bit at a time until you reach a dough consistency. If you add in a bit too much flour, this can quickly be fixed by adding in some water.

Roll the dough out on a floured surface and cut into strips at your desired length and width.

Twist each strip and lay on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for around 20-30 minutes at 325°F.

Extra twists can be stored in an airtight container, and are good for a week after baking. Treats can also be served frozen; this allows for longer storage.
