Making homemade pizza dough is easier than you think! With just a few basic ingredients and some patience, you'll have the foundation for an amazing pizza experience.
To make the best homemade pizza dough, you’ll need simple ingredients: flour, water, yeast, salt and olive oil.
Begin by activating your yeast. Combine warm water (not too hot) with sugar and sprinkle in the yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Slowly pour in the activated yeast mixture along with olive oil. Stir with a spoon until the dough starts to come together.
Kneading is key to developing the right texture in your pizza dough. On a floured surface, knead the dough for about 8 to 10 minutes.
Once kneaded, place your dough in a lightly oiled bowl. Cover it with a damp cloth or plastic wrap. Let it rise in a warm, draft-free place for about 1 to 2 hours, or until it doubles in size.
After the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Gently fold the dough over itself to remove excess gas and ensure an even texture.
Divide the dough into two equal portions for two pizzas. Roll out each piece on a floured surface, using your hands or a rolling pin.
Once your dough is shaped and the oven is hot, it’s time for toppings! Start with a thin layer of tomato sauce, then add your favorite cheese and toppings.
Place your pizza on a baking sheet or pizza stone. Bake for 10-15 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.
Cut the pizza into slices and enjoy! The homemade dough provides a soft, chewy base that perfectly complements your choice of toppings.
