Champagne, symbolic of toasts and celebration, is fun to pop out for special occasions. Little do most people know, you can still enjoy this celebratory beverage if you don't drink.
Here is how to make a fizzy and flavorful non-alcoholic champagne alternative that is great for all ages.
White Grape Juice (750 ml) Sparkling Water or Club Soda (750 ml) Lemon Juice (2 tbsp) Apple Cider Vinegar (1–2 tsp) Fresh Mint or Basil Leaves (optional) Fresh Fruit (optional)
Start by chilling both the white grape juice and sparkling water in the refrigerator for at least 2-3 hours, or until they’re cold.
In a large pitcher or punch bowl, pour in the chilled white grape juice. Add the lemon juice, which will cut through some of the sweetness. Stir gently.
If you want to mimic the slightly tangy bite of alcohol/dryness of real champagne, stir in 1-2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar. Taste as you go to make sure it isn't too overpowering.
Slowly pour sparkling water or club soda into the mixture, stirring gently to preserve the bubbles.
Taste the mixture. If it's too sweet, add a bit more lemon juice or apple cider vinegar. If you prefer a sweeter taste, you can add a teaspoon of honey or agave syrup.
Pour the non-alcoholic champagne into champagne flutes. Garnish with fresh mint, basil leaves or a slice of lemon or lime on the rim of the glass for a touch of elegance.
For a special occasion, you can also add a couple of fresh berries (like raspberries or blueberries) into each flute for a pop of color and flavor.
Substitute half of the white grape juice with cranberry juice or a splash of pomegranate juice to give your champagne a beautiful pink color and a slightly tart taste.
If you want a very bubbly drink, use a soda siphon or sparkling water maker to carbonate the mixture further.
