Pot roast is a comforting dish that brings people together with its rich flavors and tender texture.
Whether you're new to cooking or a seasoned chef, this step-by-step guide will walk you through creating the perfect pot roast.
You'll need a chuck roast, onions, carrots, potatoes, garlic, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper and olive oil. Having everything ready beforehand makes cooking seamless.
Pick a well-marbled chuck roast, which becomes tender when slow-cooked. This ensures your dish is flavorful and juicy.
Generously season your chuck roast with salt and pepper on all sides to lock in flavor during cooking.
Heat olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven. Sear the roast on all sides until it's golden brown. This step enhances the depth of flavor.
Chop onions, carrots and potatoes into chunks. Mince garlic. These will cook with the roast, absorbing its rich flavors.
After removing the roast, pour beef broth into the pot to deglaze it. Scrape up browned bits for extra flavor.
Return the roast to the pot. Add the broth, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, onions, carrots and potatoes. Cover the pot and cook on low heat for 2.5 to 3 hours.
Let the roast rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Serve the roast with vegetables and ladle the broth over the top. Add fresh herbs like parsley for a burst of color.
