You Have To Try This Pumpkin Cleaning Hack

By michael vivar

The jack-o'-lantern, like many Halloween traditions, is purported to have originated in Irish mythology.

The folklore tells of a man named Stingy Jack. He was notorious for using cunning to continually troll the Devil. This included convincing the Devil not to take his eternal soul.

When Jack died, God was disgusted by his unsavory life and cast him from Heaven. Jack was cursed to eternally wander the living plane.

People took to carving sinister faces on pumpkins to ward off Stingy Jack's trickster spirit. Irish diaspora brought the practice to America and jack-o'-lanterns are indelibly linked to Halloween.

The intuitive way to clean a pumpkin before carving is by cutting a round hole on top and lifting the excised piece off using the ergonomic stem as a handle.

Now, a trending pumpkin cleaning hack is offering a less messy alternative. It saves time and keeps your hands from getting covered in gunk.

Step 1

Using a sharp knife, cut a round hole in the bottom of the pumpkin, angling the blade inward. Remove the cut piece.

Step 2

Attach the batter mixing attachment from a kitchen hand mixer to a drill that can take interchangeable bits.

Step 3

Insert the mixer attachment into the pumpkin and pull the drill's trigger at medium pressure, scraping the pulp and seeds until the pumpkin's walls are smooth.

Step 4

Turn the pumpkin upright and use the force of gravity to shake the guts out. Voila! You now have a clean pumpkin.
