Over time, silver tarnishes due to exposure to air and moisture, which causes a chemical reaction. But don’t worry, restoring shine is easier than you think!
Forget harsh chemicals or expensive cleaners! This step-by-step guide uses everyday items from your kitchen to make your silver sparkle like new.
Line a bowl with aluminum foil, shiny side up. Fill it with hot water – enough to submerge the silver items completely.
Sprinkle about two tablespoons of baking soda per quart of water. Stir the solution gently to help dissolve the baking soda.
Place tarnished silver items in the bowl, ensuring they touch the aluminum foil. Leave them to soak for 3-5 minutes.
Remove the silver from the solution and rinse thoroughly with clean water.
Use a soft cloth to gently dry and buff the items for a brilliant shine.
After drying, apply a small amount of silver polish to stubborn spots. Gently rub with a soft cloth and buff in a circular motion for a sparkling finish.
For frequently used silverware, rinse after each use and avoid exposure to acidic foods, which can speed up tarnishing.
With these simple yet effective steps, maintaining your silver’s luster has never been easier.
