Over the years, eggs have become a breakfast staple, but that shouldn't stop you from experimenting with your favorite classics.
With the cost of eggs rising across the country, try this french toast recipe that won't break the bank.
1/2 cup milk 1 tbsp cornstarch 1 tsp vanilla extract 1/4 tsp cinnamon
2 slices bread 2 tbsp butter or non-stick spray 1/2 cup sliced strawberries Maple syrup
Combine the milk, cornstarch, vanilla and cinnamon in a square dish. Whisk until the cornstarch is dissolved.
Place a slice of bread into the mixture until soaked then flip. Allow it to soak 3 seconds longer on this side. Heat a nonstick pan on medium heat and melt 1 tablespoon of butter.
Place 2 bread slices in the center of the pan. Cook until golden brown. Flip the toast and brown the other side for 3 to 4 minutes longer. Remove both slices from the pan.
It's recommended that you use your favorite milk, whether that be whole or almond. Add cinnamon according to your personal preference of spice.
Thicker bread, like brioche, will allow for a better bite. Butter or an oil spray can achieve that grilled, slightly crunchy texture. Fruit and syrup are optional as well, although they are great additions to flavor.
