For Jvonte Lewis, home is an extension of his creative point of view. The Newark, New Jersey–based creative director and designer lives alone in an apartment that’s bold, expressive, and oozes confidence as soon as you hit the door. Color definitely plays a leading role throughout his space, balanced by graphic art, large scale sculptural furniture, and the coolest collection of objects that reflect his personal taste.

With no roommates or pets, the apartment reflects a singular perspective of a creative who isn’t afraid of color and effortlessly marries form and function. Lewis describes his design style as “a bit all over the place,” drawing inspiration from retro elements while keeping the overall feel contemporary and playful. That mix comes through clearly, setting a tone that feels intentional while remaining fluid and free.

Visually, the living room anchors the home. His large orange sectional serves as the focal point and most expensive piece in the apartment, costing Lewis about $2,500. Surrounding it are large-scale artworks, graphic prints, and a subtle blue shelf placed perfectly in the corner to display a collection of books and objects that create yet another conversation starter. And of course, you can’t overlook the gallery wall. Each piece seems to be spaced with intention, allowing all of the artwork to stand on its own rather than competing for attention which can be really hard to do.

Lewis says many of the items throughout his home were sourced from thrift shops, resale stores, and Facebook Marketplace, giving the space a collected, personal feel. The secret sauce is that Jvonte avoids trends in favor of pieces that reflect his eye and creative instincts — and that’s what truly makes his space irreplicable.

Every element — from furniture to art placement — feels deliberate, resulting in a space that’s expressive, cohesive, and unmistakably his.
