Bottega Veneta Replaced Runway Chairs With Murano Glass, and It’s a Design Lesson

The design house's Murano glass moment proves runway design has lessons for the home.

When Bottega Veneta staged its Spring/Summer 2026 runway show, the biggest surprise wasn’t in the clothes; it was in the chairs. Guests didn’t sit on sleek benches or last year’s beanbags. Instead, they perched on handcrafted Murano glass seats in jewel tones, designed by Milan-based glass studio 6:AM. It was a bold debut for the house’s new creative director, and a statement that fashion and furniture are sharing the same stage.

From Beanbags to Glass Icons

Last season, Bottega leaned into playfulness with oversized beanbags. This year, the mood shifted: permanence, heritage, and artistry. The Murano chairs, custom-made for the show, were sculpted from hand-blown glass blocks, each approximately 17 inches in diameter, then shaped using CNC-engraved cast-iron molds. Their structural recesses created both visual complexity and strength, proving these weren’t fragile ornaments but functional works of art.

A Heritage of Craft

Murano glass dates back to the 13th century in Venice and has symbolized luxury, craftsmanship, and artistry for centuries. By placing guests on glass chairs instead of traditional seating, Bottega elevated the runway into a living gallery. In ten custom colors — deep greens, cobalt blues, fiery reds, and warm ambers — the seats captured light like stained glass windows, making every angle of the show feel cinematic.

Can You Buy Them?

Not yet. For now, the Murano glass chairs remain exclusive to Bottega Veneta’s runway, created as bespoke pieces by 6:AM for this installation. While they aren’t available for retail, their impact is undeniable — they signal how design studios and fashion houses are merging worlds, with furniture treated as couture.

What This Means for Your Home

While custom Murano glass chairs may be out of reach, the design lesson translates: glass can completely transform a space. Transparent surfaces expand small rooms by reflecting light, making them appear larger. A jewel-toned glass vase or bowl can anchor a coffee table the way Bottega’s chairs anchored the runway. Glass works because it balances visibility and presence — it’s both there and not there, enhancing everything around it.

Think of it as a material that carries mood. By day, glass amplifies natural light; by night, it glows under a lamp or candle.

Bottega Veneta’s Murano chairs are proof that fashion is no longer confined to what we wear, but rather how we live. If Murano glass can redefine a runway, even the smallest glass detail — a side table, a lamp, a decorative bowl — can reshape your home.
