It’s not uncommon that the interiors and fashion worlds collide. After all, both are rooted in design, use architectural elements, and often rely on color theory to create cohesion or the opposite. But when the two come together for a designer collaboration at Crate & Barrel, my ears perk up.
As someone who loves hosting and all things dinner party-related, Crate & Barrel is like a home away from home. So when I heard they had teamed up with Laura Kim, one of fashion’s biggest names, I couldn’t have been more excited.
The collaboration marks the first for Kim’s foray into home design, but it’s not far out of her wheelhouse. As the co-creative director of Oscar de la Renta, she’s used to creating beautiful displays with items of luxury. From her work with Monse, she’s also seasoned at modernizing basic pieces and making them look expensive and chic. With her home collection, she brings both her expertise in fine artistic design and edgy cool together, and the result is stunning.
Each piece is filled with character and transforms mundane items into a work of art. But the collection also celebrates Kim’s love of food and decorative display. Ahead, see the pieces I’m adding to my shopping cart while patiently awaiting her second installment.
I've been dying to turn my dining space into a dining nook, and this wood bench is the perfect piece for the job. The natural oak finish has rustic charm, but the handcut butterfly joinery gives the piece a modern touch. With a few cozy cushions, it will make seating at the table and can even be moved into the living room for additional seating.
If you like to host, you can never have too many marble trays. I'd use this one for serving charcuterie and cheese on wine nights with friends or to create a decorative display during a dinner party.
This large vase can be used to hold dry grasses or flowers or stand alone as its own piece of decor. From the textured surface to the smooth curves and stunning shape, it commands attention in any room.
Lightweight throws are much more appropriate for spring. This one is handwoven from alpaca wool and has a breezy feel that's fitting for the season. It even comes in a deeper shade, aptly named oregano green, if you prefer a more saturated hue.
To know me is to know that I'm an avid candlestick collector. The right combination of candlesticks and holders instantly upgrades any table, whether it's in the dining room or living room. Take this marble holder, for example, that has a sculptural style and organic feel. Paired with the mauve candles, it brings a touch of chicness to the table.
The beauty of this chair lies in its ability to be adaptable. Sure, it works in the dining room, but it would look just as lovely as an accent chair in a living room or home office thanks to its classic design. The butter brown leather seating only adds to its appeal.
If you have large plants, you know how difficult it can be to find beautiful pots to hold them in. The planters in Kim's collection are inspired by vintage versions from the Mediterranean and are made to be functional decor. With a drainage hole on the bottom, it's ideal for live plants, whether you decide to place it inside or outside of your home.
