Don’t get us wrong—the bubble couch will always have a special place in our hearts. And over the years, there have been many couches that have held the same iconic status. Think of the low profile, minimalist sectionals that brought a sleek, contemporary vibe to our living spaces or the cozy, overstuffed cloud sofas that became a staple of modern luxury—each era has had its signature seating. So, that begs the question: what’s coming next? As we embrace a new chapter in design, one sofa in particular is stepping into the spotlight, promising to redefine style in a way that’s refreshingly unique and undeniably sophisticated.
Is a new trend on the rise?
While the bubble couch’s modular sections and curvy, marshmallow-like cushions have been all the rage, the pebble couch brings something new to the table—an organic, unified design that’s both elegant and serene, offering a fresh, nature-inspired aesthetic that’s perfect for any modern home.
We were first introduced to the pebble sofa during a visit to the Moroso showroom in New York. Pebble Rubble, as it’s formally known, is the brainchild of Swedish design duo Sofia Lagerkvist and Anna Lindgren. While its design is consistent with the bubble couch’s round edges and customizable nature, it deviates with a more cohesive and sculptural form.
“Our new system of furniture for Moroso took its forms from found shapes in nature,” they said of the design. “As children in our native Sweden, our playground was the forest, and we imagined rocks, moss and fallen trees to be furniture and places for the body to rest and occupy. For this seating group, we 3D scanned rocks we saw on our many forest walks, and composed these organic shapes together into furniture pieces.”
Because they resemble, well, pebbles, you can configure the perfect combination of colors, shapes and sizes to create a design that’s truly your own.
Redefining the Future of Modern Couch Design
While the bubble couch will forever remain a staple in our favorite modern interiors, the pebble couch is carving out a path that’s entirely its own. And as an influx of design trends continues to evolve, the pebble couch stands out for its organic form and natural inspiration. But whether you prefer the playful curves of the bubble couch or the freeform arrangement of the pebble couch, both styles offer nothing but eye-catching pieces for those who prioritize innovative style and the art of design above all else. So, is the pebble couch the next big thing in couch design? If it is, we like where this is heading.
