“Fashion needs me.” A bold statement, first coined by Brooklyn-bred fashion stylist Scot Louie, perfectly encapsulates his confidence and significant impact on the fashion industry. While many know him for curating looks for the stars and showcasing his big personality on the VH1 reality show “The Impact: New York,” there’s much more to Louie than meets the eye. Dinner Plus, anyone?

Louie’s journey in the fashion world is as colorful and diverse as the looks he creates. Growing up immersed in the vibrant cultural tapestry of New York City and his Jamaican background, Louie developed a unique perspective on style and self-expression through clothing. However, his passions extend beyond fashion into the category of culinary arts and cultural exploration.

As a multi-hyphenate talent, Louie’s presence on the internet goes beyond fashion. In addition to being a tastemaker through sharing dating tips, beauty reviews and more, he always gives a nod to his hosting and kitchen skills. It’s to no surprise that the art of a multifaceted approach is evident in the star’s brand, Dinner Plus, which was launched on Instagram in 2017. Etching out space as a tastemaker does, Dinner Plus hosts all of his recipes and Louie’s line of spices named Oh Wow.

Louie’s culinary journey is set to reach new heights with the release of his cookbook, “Tastemaker: Cooking with Spice, Style & Soul,” which dropped on September 3rd. His cookbook venture showcases his ability to marry his fashion sensibilities with his love for food and culture.

In a recent conversation, we chatted with Louie about his lifestyle journey, how he honed his hosting skills, and his various creative pursuits.

Home & Texture: You’re Scot Louie, and fashion needs you, but how did you become interested in lifestyle content?

Scot Louie: My foray into lifestyle content came seamlessly. Cooking has always been a part of my life. In 2017, the Dinner Plus Instagram was launched on a random evening when I felt like recording and posting what I made for dinner. From there, it quickly took on a life of its own

H&T: What was your inspiration behind Dinner Plus?

SC: Dinner Plus is a digital food board where I bring my audience into the kitchen. I created this brand to be a safe space where you can visit when you need an idea of what to cook for dinner and what ingredients pair well together.

H&T: Why is Dinner Plus essential to today’s culture?

SL: Dinner Plus is a clear indication of following your dreams and betting on yourself. The page wasn’t started as a means to gain or even launch a product. However, passion led us to launch Oh Wow Spices and the “Tastemaker: Cooking with Spice, Style, and Soul” cookbook.

H&T: From your POV, what makes someone the best host when having friends over?

SL: Knowing your audience and creating an experience is what I consider an excellent host. I personally love a self-serve spread and a self-serve drink bar that allows for mingling and sharing. The union at the self-serve bar pushes the guests to learn more about the host through your cooking as well.

H&T: What’s your go-to drink or food recipe that pleases everyone with different tastes and personalities?

SL: My guests can always count on me for something with Jamaican influence. My go-to is likely a rum punch pitcher and braised oxtail. These are both recipes from the “Tastemaker: Cooking with Spice, Style, and Soul” cookbook.
