Looking for an easy summer dessert to make? While desserts like peach pie, crumble bars, and cheesecake are all great summer desserts, they require a lot of time, labor and ingredients for the final product to come together. With strawberries still in season, it’s the perfect time to go to your local farm to pick some and make a dessert with them. One dessert we’ve been loving this summer is the strawberry dump cake.

A cross between a pie and a cake, this dessert is similar to a cobbler. It’s also quick, easy and simple to make, as it only requires a few ingredients. This dump cake is the perfect recipe to bring to a friend’s summer party or to make at home for the kids. The prep for this is so easy, not messy and only takes five minutes. Here’s how to make a strawberry dump cake.

Here's how to perfect the strawberry dump cake recipe. Pictured: Strawberries with strawberry pie filling

Ingredients:

  • ¾ cup of cold butter (sliced into squares)
  • 1 box of yellow cake mix
  • 1 can of strawberry pie filling
  • Cooking spray
  • Vanilla or Strawberry Ice cream (optional)
  • Whipped cream (optional)

To make this strawberry dump cake recipe, start by greasing your 9 x 13 baking pan with cooking spray. Add the strawberry pie filling to the fan and spread it evenly throughout the entire pan. This will serve as the first layer of the cake. For your second layer, add your yellow cake mix on top. Make sure it’s spread evenly as well, completely covering the pie layer. Place each butter square on top, making sure it’s even over the layer of cake mix. Bake your cake for 50 to 60 minutes at 350 degrees until the top of the cake is golden. Serve with ice cream or whipped cream and enjoy this fruity, cobbler/cake creation! If you have some extra time on your hands, make the strawberry filling, ice cream or whipped cream from scratch. For an extra touch, garnish your dessert with chopped-up strawberries. This is the perfect chance to really make this dessert to your own liking.
