Recreate Popeyes' Don Julio Chicken Sandwich at Home

When two bold icons collide, you get the Popeyes Don Julio Chicken Sandwich, a masterful collaboration that took the beloved fast-food chain’s famous chicken sandwich to new heights.

Curious about how to recreate this limited-edition masterpiece at home? Let’s dive into the details of this epic collab!

They took the iconic chicken sandwich to the next level by adding a flavorful twist: tequila lime slaw. Heres how to make the slaw at home to bring that bold, refreshing addition to your own sandwiches.

4 cups shredded cabbage 1 cup shredded carrots 1/2 cup finely chopped red onion 1/2 cilantro (optional)

Ingredients - Slaw

1/4 cup mayonnaise 1/4 cup sour cream 2 tbsp Don Julio 2 tbsp fresh lime juice 1 tbsp honey 1/2 tsp chipotle powder Salt and pepper to taste

Ingredients - Dressing

In a large bowl, combine the shredded cabbage, shredded carrots, chopped red onion and cilantro (if using). Toss them together until evenly mixed.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, sour cream, Don Julio tequila, lime juice, honey and chipotle powder. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Pour the tequila lime dressing over the veggies and toss the mixture until everything is evenly coated. Cover the salad and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Serve on top of a homemade fried-chicken sandwich with a concha roll to complete the Popeyes meal.

To make this slaw truly your own, consider adding mashed avocado, corn for a bit of juiciness or jalapeños for an extra kick. These flavorful additions will elevate the slaw and give it a unique twist.
