Before Frank Ocean’s fans knew him under this moniker, the singer was born Christopher Edwin Breaux. After releasing his first mixtape in 2011 following the changing his name, Nostalgia Ultra received critical acclaim and would lead to major success as an artist. In combination with several singles and song appearances, he would go on to release three more albums and launch his own jewelry and luxury brand called Homer. Ocean is rumored to currently have a net worth of $16 million and continues to live most of his life away from the spotlight. But where is he living when he’s not in the spotlight? Here’s what we know.
Where Does Frank Ocean Live?
Known to locals of Manhattan as the “Jenga building,” Ocean purchased an apartment in the Herzog & de Meuron-constructed high-rise in 2022. The Swiss architects developed what looks to be a “stack of individual houses,” straying away from the uniformity of most New York high-rise buildings in the area. Ocean, who has a passion for construction from staircases and jewelry designs, has posted photos of himself in the reflection of his balcony sliding glass door and strewn solo across his extra large, euro-style, multi-person sofa. The apartment is characterized by Ocean’s eclectic nature, seen in the plaster-resembling, Flintstone chair in front of his Wurli keyboard piano. He also has an Avai pommel horse near the door that exits to his balcony and a mod-inspired dining set. Besides a few appliances, cleaning supplies and random pieces of furniture, Ocean’s apartment offers a stunning view.
Frank Ocean Left New Orleans Following Hurricane Katrina
Born in Long Beach, Frank Ocean moved with his family to New Orleans when he was 5 years old. It’s where he would grow up until his late teen years. The 2005 high school graduate enrolled at the University of New Orleans. In August, when Hurricane Katrina hit, his recording facility was badly flooded and looted. His academic goals were put on hold to try to salvage his music career elsewhere in Los Angeles for a short time.
“The storm itself didn’t make me move, but the storm ruined my recording environment and the studio I was working in got looted and destroyed by floodwater,” he told BBC. “I didn’t have a place to work in New Orleans so I left and came to LA.”
That LA trip became much longer once he found music connects. From Louisiana to California to New York, he’s made a point of making music no matter where he goes. And the rumor mill is swarming about potential new music since his last album in 2016.
