Bringing plants into your home can have a beautiful effect on your space, mood, and overall energy. But beyond their health benefits, houseplants instantly transform your space into a sanctuary of peace. The look has even filtered into one of the year’s top design trends and has been popping up on social media feeds for a while now. Shopping for a houseplant can feel like a chore if you’re a new plant parent, which is why it’s best to start with the basics.

Luckily, there are lots of experts and plant gurus online to help guide you through the process. One of our favorites, Paige Tailyn, is consistently dropping gems on plant maintenance and even the ones you should avoid at all costs. In a recently pinned TikTok, Tailyn is at it again, sharing her insight for newbies and seasoned plant lovers alike.

But this time around, she’s sharing her top picks of plants you should buy for your home. Some are simple and common species, like the vine-like pothos. While others have an alluring and commanding look that takes your breath away. With over 150 plants and counting, Tailyn is a true expert. So, of course, her advice on creating the perfect green oasis is always welcomed. Keep reading to see the four plants she recommends you invest in ASAP.

Syngoniums

For the lazy plant parent, Tailyn says syngoniums are a perfect choice because they grow fast and require very little maintenance. In the video, she holds seemingly different plants and exclaims that they are all forms of a syngonium, stating that the versatility of the species also makes them desirable. With a variety of sizes, colors, and shapes, these plants can bring a unique flair to any space, and you won’t have to worry about a different maintenance routine.

Pothos

This full and luscious vine plant is a favorite in many homes, whether you’re a seasoned plant parent or a newbie. “You can go days without looking at this plant, and it will still show up for you,” she exclaims. The sentiment is the exact reason it’s become a staple in homes all over. Pothos are also easy to find at local hardware stores and plant shops and even come in a spectrum of green shades. In the clip, Tailyn mentions some of the most common types, including neon, marble queen, and Hawaiian pothos that you can choose from.

Anthurium Clarinervium

While these plants do require a little bit more attention to thrive, Tailyn says that they are hardy and can add a unique look to your home. They’re great options for humid spaces and can be ideal for those who have time to invest in regular upkeep and grooming maintenance. If you’re new to these styles, start with a smaller plant and pay close attention to your watering schedule to ensure it stays healthy.

Monstera Deliciosa

Affectionately known as the Swiss cheese plant, monstera deliciosa is the statement-making style you’ve probably seen on Instagram and Pinterest. As Tailyn explains, they start off small but quickly grow into large, tree-like plants that are beautiful to look at and decorate with.
