Top 15 Songs by Black Artists for Your Summer Cleaning Playlist

These songs take washing the dishes up a notch.

After a busy week, scrubbing toilets and wiping down baseboards aren’t the most exciting ways to spend a Saturday or Sunday. Chores are a constant in our lives (unless you have the luxury of a housekeeper, and, in that case, we love that for you!), but getting them done doesn’t have to be all work and no play. Music is a melodic escape, turning car rides, exercising, and even folding laundry into an opportunity for a mini-concert. Pop on a pair of headphones or power on a Bluetooth speaker and soundtrack your day with your favorite songs for a great distraction. Or better yet, check out the tracks we have on repeat this summer.

In no particular order, here are the songs we have on our cleaning playlist.

1. “Not Like Us” – Kendrick Lamar

Undoubtedly the fatal blow in the months-long rap feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar, this summer anthem is an ode to LA. With its commanding beat and quick-witted, piercing lyrics, “Not Like Us” delivers a bouncy powerbomb. It’s the perfect track to blast when you’re low on energy and need a boost to get things done.

2. “Jump” – Tyla, Gunna, Skillibeng

The Amapiano Princess’ debut album featured several versatile cuts, including this movement-filled hit with Gunna. Tyla’s confident air and Gunna’s suave lend to a smooth, bass-booming track that feels like time’s flying.

3. “Alright” – Victoria Monét

Although she won Best New Artist at this year’s Grammy Awards, Victoria Monét is far from a newcomer. “Alright” draws you in with its slippery beat and majestic vocals, making it impossible not to dance along—probably with a broom doubling as your mic.

4. “Attitude” – Don Toliver featuring Cash Cobain and Charlie Wilson

Uncle Charlie’s rifts are a welcome surprise in this fun single from Don Toliver’s latest album, Hardstone Psycho. This track effortlessly glides through the speakers, leaving listeners eager for what’s next. If you’re gearing up for a night out after cleaning, this is one of those songs that will definitely get you hyped for later.

5. “Spit It Out” – Kaytranada featuring Rochelle Jordan

Kaytranada’s sound is all about that electric feel. His production has provided the backdrop for iconic songs, like his 2017 collaboration track with H.E.R., “Intimidated.” “Spit It Out” sets a groovy tone for the day, putting you in a laidback, jazzy headspace that makes the idea of vacuuming the house from top to bottom seem a lot less tedious.

6. “TGIF” – GloRilla

Even Rihanna is belting out the lyrics to GloRilla’s song of the summer. With it’s catchy hook, “TGIF” grabs our attention. When you’re tempted to spend your Sunday afternoon napping instead of doing laundry, turn this on to get your head back in the game.

7. “Nasty” – Tinashe

R&B songstress Tinashe’s finally getting her flowers with this straightforward hit about wanting a partner who knows their way around the bedroom. We can thank TikTok for getting this one stuck in our heads—with its trending dance, we can’t help but join in, moving our hips to the infectious, poppy beat.

8. “For Certain” – PARTYNEXTDOOR

Keeping up with that vibe, next comes a rhythmic track from Canada’s very own, PARTYNEXTDOOR. Reminiscent of the heavily Caribbean ethos of Drake’s “Controlla,” his influence on this song is undeniable.

9. “one of wun” – Gunna

Glittery production shines on the title track from Gunna’s One of Wun. Overall, the song leads with a shoulder-shimmying sound and a memorable hook.

10. “sweeet” – Amaarae

Maybe you’re doing a full sweep in preparation for date night, if so, Amaarae’s “sweeet” will surely put you in a sensual mood. If nothing else, it’s flawless background music for trying on clothes that make you feel beautiful while putting them away in the process.

11. “Otaku Hot Girl” – Megan Thee Stallion

Megan Thee Stallion’s admiration for anime and Japanese culture inspires her new self-titled album. As always, track seven showcases her lyrical prowess, drawing listeners in with breathy delivery and punchy wordplay.

12. “Whatever She Wants” – Bryson Tiller

Bryson Tiller’s braggadocious “Whatever She Wants” lets us know he’s not afraid to spend a little coin on his girlfriend. Although this song trended on TikTok for weeks until his album dropped, we’re still not bored of it.

13. “Don Who Leo” – Monaleo

This bubbly yet in-your-face hit from Monaleo is one of our favorites of the year. Whether you’re in the house, the car, or the club, the pretty-in-pink rapper’s energetic record deserves a full blast.

14. “Saturn” – SZA

SZA’s existential track invites you to engage in a little introspection with ethereal soundscapes that take us to another planet. If cleaning helps you think or grounds you, then you’ll love this one.

15. “Okay (Remix)” – JT and Jeezy

The collaboration we didn’t know we needed! Pushing confidence past the point of cockiness, JT and Jeezy deliver an edgy trap hit infused with nostalgic Dirty South vibes. It’s a feel good song to celebrate the end of a cleaning day. Our homes might have been down bad, but after all our hard work they’re looking more than okay! Pretty than a…
