I Own 3 Ruggable Rugs: Here’s What I Really Think About Them

From spills to daily wear and tear, here’s my honest review of whether these washable rugs live up to the hype.

Long gone are the days when a spill or stain could completely ruin a rug. In their place, we have an assortment of styles that can be picked up and thrown into the wash at any point. While this concept is ideal for pet owners and homes with kids, it’s not always a popular choice for apartment dwellers. But to me, a washable rug had so much more potential in my New York City apartment than in a three-story home. Space is a consistent issue for renters, especially in NYC, and having an option that allows you to forgo vacuum cleaners can be ideal.

When it came to finding rugs for my house, I knew I wanted to go for a washable option. Although there are several brands on the market, Ruggable rugs have always been on my radar due to their quality and designer collections. However, upon diving deeper into the brand’s offerings, I discovered that there was much more to each style than initially meets the eye. If you’re thinking about purchasing a new rug, scroll on for my honest thoughts on three Ruggable rugs.

Eartha Terracotta Rug

  • Runner style rug made for entryways, hallways, and kitchens.
  • 2.5 x 7 size.
  • Standard rug pad and tufted texture.

Purchasing a runner rug is tricky when the hallway space is confined, which is the case in my apartment. The design of this rug was perfect for my aesthetic and combined a fun print with rich, warm colors to make my hallway feel cozy and inviting. It features clay tones and an enchanting mix of patterns and prints, including leopards and floral motifs. Placing it in the hallway instantly livened up the walkway, and the standard rug pad provides a light cushion for guests walking into the apartment without looking bulky and heavy. However, the common issue with runner rugs staying in place persists. Even with the rug pad, I often have to adjust the rug and reposition it to the desired location.

Justina Blakeney Eartha Terracotta Tufted Rug

This playful rug features an earthy color palette that's subtly warm and inviting. From the chocolate brown and terracotta shades to the muted teal, it evokes a cozy feeling while showcasing Justina Blakeney's cool leopard illustrations. It also comes in several sizes, making it ideal for any room in your home.

Solene Amber Red Rug

  • Area rug made for large rooms.
  • 6 x 9 size.
  • Cushioned rug pad and tufted texture.

For my living room, I wanted a rug that was rich in earthy colors but still felt coastal and cool. The Solene Amber Red Rug was the perfect choice as it features vibrant earth tones and a pattern that feels just as organic. Having never purchased an area rug before, I was careful about choosing the size and density of the rug. The cushioned rug pad feels plush under my feet and is comfortable enough to sit or lie down on if desired. The larger size also works well in my living space and helps keep the rug in place.

Solene Amber Red Rug

This rug's design was inspired by Mediterranean basket weaving and the intricacies of the patterns they create. It features irregularly layered striped motifs and a warm palette of amber hues, rust colors, and deep browns. It's the perfect design for adding warmth and color to your space without going overboard.

Calabria Coral Multicolor Flatwoven Rug

  • Area rug made for large rooms.
  • 6 x 9 size.
  • Cushioned rug pad and tufted texture.

The rustic colors and Persian design first drew me to this rug, but it proved to be a good fit in the bedroom. The color palette is muted so it doesn’t overpower the other shades in the room, and the size is perfect for a larger queen-sized bed. Where some rugs didn’t provide enough cushion or have enough space for walking, the cushioned rug pad and tufted texture of this rug allow for a comfortable setup in the bedroom.

Calabria Coral Multicolor Flatwoven Rug

Like many Persian designs, the Calabria Coral Multicolor Rug features floral foliage motifs and light distressing. However, instead of airy colors and light tones, it uses rustic shades to bring the design to life. Citron, neutral blues, reds, and pink all complement the coral backdrop and enhance the rug's floral designs.

Final Takeaway

Buying a rug can be a tough decision, especially when you live in an apartment. However, it’s best to think of this purchase as an investment. A washable rug saves time and space in smaller homes, allowing for flexibility when moving. Beyond that, Ruggable rugs offer a diverse range of designs, making it easy to find a style to suit your current aesthetic or a new look to refresh your home. While the brand offers flat-woven styles, tufted designs often provide more cushion and comfort for lived-in spaces.
