Virginia-raised and the son of Nigerian parents, the country music rising star Shaboozey got his start during the SoundCloud era, eventually gaining wider recognition from two collaborations with Beyonce’s Cowboy Carter. Virginia’s Hip-Hop Artists Made an Impact on Shaboozey

Ofoegbu Collins Chibueze, aka Shaboozey, grew up in Woodbridge, Virginia. American-born but attending boarding school in Nigeria as a child, he’s developed deeper ties in both places. His stage name came from a misspelling of his last name by his high school football coach. Although still considered a small town now, Woodbridge’s population is currently growing at approximately 49,000 and has been the home state of some of the who’s who in hip-hop. Just to name a few, the imprint made by fellow Virginian Pharrell Williams, Missy Elliott and Timbaland were influential in Shaboozey’s appreciation for hip-hop.

Where Does Shaboozey Live Now?

While Shaboozey’s current residence is unknown, he moved to Los Angeles in 2018 for his music. Even on the west coast, he has been vocal about opening a studio for his production company, V Pictures Films, in Virginia. This company is the fruit of seeds planted during his childhood for a dream “to have a film studio in Virginia where mid-Atlantic artists can come together to create.”
