If you were to spend a morning or afternoon working on your swing at the golf course, what do you think your drink of choice would be? You may opt for a classic drink like a whiskey sour, or even keep it simple with a nice cold beer. However, for many professional and hobby golfers alike the go-to drink for a day on the green is a transfusion cocktail. A transfusion cocktail drink is a refreshing and popular drink, especially favored by golfers.
It is not known where the name for the drink came from or why it is so popular within golf clubs. Many have simply concluded the drink’s refreshing ingredients made it a perfect way to cool down after a round of golf, subsequently becoming popular amongst golfers.
Regardless of whether you golf or not, a transfusion cocktail drink is a flavorful and refreshing way to stay chill this summer. The recipe is also conveniently simple and easy. All you need is four ingredients that you can adjust to your liking to discover what may be your new favorite drink.
Transfusion Cocktail Ingredients
- Vodka: The primary spirit used in the drink.
- Ginger Ale: Adds a mild ginger flavor and that essential carbonation.
- Grape Juice: Provides sweetness and a unique fruity flavor.
- Lime Juice: Fresh lime juice is often added for a citrusy tartness.
- Lime wedge and/or frozen grapes (optional)
How To Prepare a Transfusion Cocktail Drink
- Fill a glass with ice.
- Add 1.5 to 2 ounces of vodka.
- Pour in equal parts of ginger ale and grape juice (usually about 1-2 ounces each, but this can be adjusted to taste).
- Squeeze in some fresh lime juice and optionally add a lime wedge or frozen grapes for garnish.
The mixture of vodka, ginger ale, grape juice and lime creates a refreshing, semi-tart drink with a bright pinkish-purple color. The ginger ale adds fizz and sweetness that balances the tart lime and grape flavors. Some variations include using cranberry juice instead of grape juice or adding a splash of simple syrup to increase the sweetness level. The Transfusion cocktail drink can be a relatively low alcohol content cocktail perfect to be enjoyed as a brunch or summer drink.
