With the rise in the popularity of espresso martinis, cocktails with caffeine have quickly become all the rave. As the weather around the world warms up, there’s nothing more enticing than sitting at a terrace and indulging in a caffeinated delicacy.
While it may seem like a lot to pair alcohol with caffeine, the secret is all in proper dosing. With the right amount of alcohol meeting the right amount of caffeine, you’ll be given a burst of energy and released inhibitions without forfeiting your sleep once you return home. So whether you’re kicking off the day or capping off the night, here are five ways to enjoy the lively blend of cocktails with caffeine.
Espresso Martini
* 1 1/2 oz vodka
* 1 oz coffee liqueur (e.g., Kahlua)
* 1 oz freshly brewed espresso
* 1/2 oz simple syrup
* Ice
* Coffee beans for garnish
Instructions: Shake all ingredients with ice until well-chilled. Strain into a chilled martini glass and garnish with coffee beans.
Irish Coffee
* 1 1/2 oz Irish whiskey
* 4 oz hot brewed coffee
* 1 oz heavy cream
* 1 tsp brown sugar (optional)
Instructions: Pour hot coffee into a warmed glass, add whiskey and sugar, and stir until dissolved. Gently float cold cream on top by pouring it over the back of a spoon.
Black Russian
* 1 1/2 oz vodka
* 3/4 oz coffee liqueur
* Ice
* Coffee beans for garnish (optional)
Instructions: Fill a rocks glass with ice. Pour vodka and coffee liqueur over the ice and stir well. Garnish with coffee beans if desired.
Mexican Coffee
* 1 1/2 oz tequila
* 1 oz Kahlua or other coffee liqueur
* 6 oz hot brewed coffee
* Whipped cream
* Cinnamon (optional)
Instructions: Pour tequila and coffee liqueur into a mug, then fill with hot coffee. Top with whipped cream and sprinkle with cinnamon if desired.
Mocha Martini
* 1 1/2 oz vodka
* 1 oz chocolate liqueur
* 1/2 oz coffee liqueur
* 1 oz freshly brewed espresso
* Ice
* Chocolate shavings for garnish
Instructions: Shake all ingredients with ice until well-chilled. Strain into a chilled martini glass and garnish with chocolate shavings.
