Even when those life-or-death sugar cravings hit, the last thing most of us want to do in the peak of the summer heat is turn on the oven to do some baking. Instead, we prefer grounding in nature, giving our SPF-covered skin some vitamin D and, of course, indulging in the occasional adult beverage in the company of great friends. One way to satisfy your sweet tooth and slip into relaxation mode is with our pineapple upside-down cake shot recipe, which only requires three ingredients to make.

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz vanilla vodka
  • 1 oz pineapple juice
  • Splash of grenadine
  • Maraschino cherries to garnish (optional)

To start, pour your white liquor of choice into a tall shot glass, followed by an equal amount of pineapple juice. For the best flavor, ensure your juice has good clarity, or as little pulp as possible, so you can clearly see the pineapple upside-down cake shot’s beautiful gradient colors. When it’s time to add your grenadine, you’ll want to do so carefully. Grab a spoon to pour the liquor over to minimize discoloring, then allow it to settle at the bottom for a minute before serving. Finally, add your maraschino cherry on top as a garnish before enjoying responsibly!

If our pineapple upside-down cake shot recipe isn’t exactly your cup of tea, there’s no rule saying you can’t make the tasty concoction work for your tastebuds. White amaretto or white rum are great alternatives for anyone who doesn’t drink vodka – for example, using Malibu rather than Smirnoff will add a new level of tropical tastiness to your shot.

Those who love vodka might have a fun time experimenting with different flavors in this shot. If you have a low tolerance for sweet things, we would suggest sticking with regular alcohol, but whipped cream or cake vodka are sure to curb any sugar cravings you’ve been experiencing.
