Of the many rooms in a home, few hold the kind of power that a kitchen does. It’s not just a place to cook and eat daily meals; it’s a place to convene, gather, relax, and unwind. For this reason, kitchen layouts and designs are a major market. We all want a beautifully designed space with sleek appliances and a chic look. But remodeling a kitchen isn’t cheap. Instead of hiring a contractor and knocking down walls to create your dream space, you could take creator Ida Alexis’ (@idaalexis) approach and opt for color transformation like her bubblegum pink kitchen.

You may have seen a video or two on your social feeds about her uniquely colored space. Covered from ceiling to floor in a bubblegum pink hue, it’s becoming a sensation on TikTok for all the right reasons. It’s no secret that color, and lots of it, is trending in the design world. Color drenching and annual shade selections have made it clear that 2025 is all about vibrant, saturated tones. But while many people have opted for a classic paint job, Alexis embraced another design trend, using contact paper.

In her video, she explains how she completely transformed her simple wall kitchen into a colorful work of art. The process involved using pink contact paper and wrapping the appliances and cabinets in the space. She mentioned that it took her two days to complete the work, which took about eight hours each day, adhering and smoothing the paper to get a seamless application. The result was a sleek, color-drenched space without the hassle of painting and costing under $100.

But she didn’t stop there. Shortly after, she decided to wrap the refrigerator in pink to round out the space. Though this project followed the same peel-and-stick approach, experience had taught her that contact paper wouldn’t be durable enough for an appliance. So, she went with a pink vinyl wrap frequently used to wrap cars. The heavy-duty material is water-resistant and heat-resistant, making it ideal for appliances, but it applies just as easily as contact paper.

The third installment of the project included wrapping her microwave in pink. Though it sits behind the cabinets, the modern design of her kitchen allows for a cool reveal when the doors are opened.

The project resulted in a stunning transformation with lots of visual appeal. Each surface appears smooth, adding to her kitchen’s sleek look. Contact paper is having a moment in the industry, but the drenching element sets Alexis’s viral pink kitchen apart from other DIY projects. By merging this color trend with renter-friendly peel-and-stick paper, she created something truly unique.
