For interior design lovers, nothing is more satisfying than a good before-and-after project. Whether you’re getting creative with contact paper or changing up the tile flooring, it’s exciting to watch your space transform in real time. But if there’s one room DIYers get the most joy from changing up, it’d be the bathroom—more specifically, a guest bathroom. Small and compact, it’s the best blank canvas and has lots of potential for a cool decor project.
Painting has always been a go-to project for transforming a room. However, when it comes to the bathroom, most people opt for light and bright. In other words, before and afters usually include heavy renovations or small decor tweaks. For example, a new sink, an incredible wall mirror, or new tiling in the shower. But with the design trends of the year leaning into saturated shades and color-drenched rooms, it’s time to rethink how we transform bathrooms.
That’s exactly what one TikTok creator decided to do in her home. Instead of sticking to a lighter color palette, she opted to embrace color drenching in all its glory and give the guest bathroom a dark romantic feel. The final look is mysterious, alluring, and completely unique. Below, we explain how to replicate this DIY project in your home.

How to Get the Look
Like many guest bathrooms, this space beforehand is fairly empty. From the bare walls and floors to the minimal decor, it’s a completely blank canvas. The key to nailing this look lies in the moody color palette. That said, it’s important to stick to a dark shade that will add depth to the room and set the tone. If you’re opting for a deep reddish-brown color, try selecting a brick or oxblood shade of paint.
Texture is just as important and will help add further depth to the space. To do this, the creator chose a glossy square tile to use as the backsplash. The color matches the aesthetic but also creates contrast against the paint.
Brass fixtures and marble further enhance the contrast and add touches of luxury to the room. For the final touch, you’ll want to focus on adding light that will best illuminate the nuances of the room. In this bathroom, the creator settled on a simple bulb with no shade. This decision may seem odd, but opting for this style of lighting allows the dark colors of the room to become the focal point.
