As delicious (and often fun to eat) as carbohydrates are, there’s been a noticeable rise in high-protein diets over the past few decades. Before social media, foodies stuck to classic cookbooks and their own devices when it came to crafting recipes. Now, a quick scroll through Pinterest or TikTok can yield dozens of tasty new meals to add to your roster. For those who are anti-carb, the cottage cheese baking hack has become a popular, easy-to-make option, and it’s more versatile than you might think!
Content creator Victoria Minell has posted numerous recipes showing how much range cottage cheese really has. In her kitchen, she’s made a delicious and nutritious tomato prosciutto wrap and she has a breakfast wrap tutorial that’ll start your day on a well-nourished note. Elsewhere, other TikTokers like Ashley McCrary are showing off their cottage cheese baking hack videos. Her creation boasts 37G of protein per serving. “You can use it as a wrap or even as a pizza crust. It’s also an excellent choice for those following a low-carb lifestyle,” the creative explains.

What Are Nutritionists Saying About This Trend?
Before making any major changes to your diet, it’s important to consult a nutritionist to ensure how you’re fueling your body aligns with your goals. Fox News Digital spoke with two – both of whom had some critiques about the cottage cheese baking hack. The first, Tanya Freirich, reminds us that completely excluding carbs from your diet can cause problems. One of them is the overconsumption of protein, which can cause people to fall short of other important nutrients. Besides this, the registered dietitian nutritionist also cautions anyone who’s lactose intolerant or dairy sensitive against indulging in a batch of cottage cheese bread.
The second expert, Lauren Harris-Pincus, had more to say about the TikTok trend. To her, cottage cheese’s high levels of sodium (which can equal more than 1/3 of the recommended daily serving) are concerning. While it’s an innovative way to replace carbs, cheese doesn’t provide the same fiber that can be found in traditional whole-grains and tortillas. “Bread contains nutrients like iron and B vitamins, such as folic acid, that are very important for women of childbearing age,” Harris-Pincus notes.
