Spring is just around the corner, and so is the excitement of seasonal gatherings. The warm weather and sun-filled days are the perfect excuse to make use of your backyard and throw an intimate party. Dinners and brunches are always a hit, but if you want something truly unique, you can’t go wrong with an elegant sip and paint affair. Hosting your sip and paint party outdoors isn’t just a nice way to enjoy the season—it can also be a chic event your friends won’t soon forget.
If you’re new to hosting, creating a garden sip and paint party might sound like an expensive project. Parties aren’t cheap. From the decor to the easels, art supplies, and wine, the items can add up. But there are budget-friendly ways to throw this beautiful garden event. Recently, UK-based interior designer and DIY enthusiast Medina Grillo, known as @grillodesigns on social media, did just that.
After moving into her new home, Grillo gave her followers an inside look at how to compose a stylish backyard affair while still keeping their wallets intact. In a TikTok dedicated to the event, she showed that you don’t need a fancy party planner; instead, you can bring your sip and paint party to life with simple hardware supplies and a trip to your local craft store.
@grillodesigns AD. Last week I hosted a housewarming Sip n Paint party in my garden with @Hobbycraft and it was so much fun! I was able to find all the art and painting tools I needed at my local Hobbycraft store. And because I had signed up to the Hobbycraft app, I actually saved money with their exclusive rewards system for members! They currently have a sale on all their art supplies, so if you’re thinking of hosting a Sip n Paint of your own , or are a painter in need of more tools, head to your local Hobbycraft now! What do you think? Have you ever hosted a Sip n Paint party before? Hobbycraft, #paintandsip #sipandpaint #gardenparty #outdoorparty #hostingideas #alfrescodining #housewarming
How She Did It
The final result was absolute perfection. But what caught the viewer’s attention was the initial setup. As Grillo shows off her new backyard, two industrial folding tables are sitting front and center. They’re not glamorous or fancy and look more like garage sale supplies than the setup for a garden party. However, these simple folding tables are the first step to nailing the gorgeous table spread for the party.
The folding tables were placed side by side and then draped with a taupe linen tablecloth to create a minimalist look. Next, she began setting the scene with eight stylish wooden chairs and an oversized patio umbrella. The plain tables provided a clean backdrop for her decor, which she explains can all be found at a craft store. For her natural tablescape, she chose straw placemats, rustic wooden slices, and glass vases from the store’s wedding section.
In the video, she notes that this is a one-stop-shop kind of party. After picking up her decorations, she headed to the arts and crafts section to stock up on paint supplies. Instead of opting for large painting stations, she chose mini canvases and easels and accessorized the table with glasses filled with brushes and different paints. The final touches included candlesticks and floral arrangements that brought the garden theme to life. Whether you consider yourself an artist or not, hosting a chic sip and paint party doesn’t have to be expensive to be perfect.
