Meet The Brand That Easily Became My Coffee Alternative

An honest review of the coffee brand MUD/WTR.

I’m one of those people who needs a hot coffee in hand, regardless of the season. It’s a habit ingrained from my upbringing with boomer parents in a Black and Southern household, where coffee was a love language. I’ve been drinking it since childhood.

Recently, I’ve noticed my reliance on coffee becoming problematic. Without it, my attitude suffers. While I don’t necessarily need it to stay awake, it still aids my social skills. I’m much better IRL once I have my much needed cup of Joe. That is, until I met the viral brand MUD/WTR.

What Is MUD/WTR?

MUD/WTR is a distinctive beverage that combines various ingredients, drawing inspiration from Ayurvedic practices and traditional Chinese medicine. Shane Heath, the creator of this coffee alternative and founder of MUD/WTR, set out to develop a healthier option that would provide energy without the typical coffee-induced jitters and subsequent fatigue. I can also honestly attest to the fact that my heart palpitations and anxieties have dramatically increased. Maybe coffee was the problem.

What’s in MUD/WTR?

MUD/WTR’s beverage blend contains a variety of ingredients, each selected for its potential health benefits and energy-boosting properties.

Key components of MUD/WTR include:

  • Cacao: Known for its antioxidants and potential mood-enhancing effects.
  • Masala chai: A spiced tea blend that supports digestion.
  • Turmeric: Valued for its anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Β Cinnamon: Often associated with blood sugar regulation.
  • Mushroom blend: Including chaga, cordyceps, reishi, and lion’s mane.

How Did I Try MUD/WTR?

I purchased the “Original Starter Kit,”Β  which includes a 30-serving tin, a rechargeable frother, a sample, and a sticker (we love brand merch). At $40 per month, it equates to about $1.33 per serving, potentially more economical than daily coffee shop purchases.

For my concoction, I treated it as I would ground coffee. I added a tablespoon of MUD/WTR to a mug with hot water and creamer, then mixed it together with the frother. In my opinion, it was more like a latte than the regular drip coffee I usually drink, but it was a delightful treat nonetheless.

My Takeaway

Despite sleeping better and having more energy, this isn’t a routine that feels sustainable for me long-term. It’s a drink I’d enjoy when I have time to prepare it.

For those looking to replace their daily coffee and who have more time, MUD/WTR is an excellent option. If it were available in K-cup format, it would easily become an everyday staple for me.
