Another home decor retailer bites the dust. The discount home store Tuesday Morning announced that it would be closing all its stores. This news comes days after Bed Bath & Beyond announced its closure. These retailers were part of millennials’ childhoods, and the closure announcements have come as a shock as well as an indicator of where the home decor retail industry is heading.

Tuesday Morning revealed on its website and in a Facebook post that the process of closing its 200 retail locations across 25 states has begun. “Starting today [April 29th], we have begun the process of closing all our stores. Our Going Out of Business Sales is in stores now, with savings up to 30% off. Thank you for 49 years of loyalty and support,” said the Facebook post.

The Dallas-based retailer says that anyone with gift cards can use them through May 13. All sales are final and non-returnable during the store closing event.

Denton Record-Chronicle reported that the retailer was sold to a liquidation company after filing for bankruptcy in February. This was the second bankruptcy in three years for the company. Tuesday Morning first filed for bankruptcy in May 2020, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The second filing in February 2023 came as the company was restructuring because of extreme debt. Although there are 200 locations left to close, there were 700 just three years ago.

Tuesday Morning did not venture into the world of e-commerce, therefore remaining as a brick-and-mortar company. Consumers’ habits have changed, and because of inflation, increasing interest rates, and layoffs, people are spending less. Retailers like Amazon are thriving because of their ease, quick shipping, and affordability.
