Curating a home to match your personality and unique style requires some serious effort. Honing a collection of trinkets and furniture that speaks volumes about you doesn’t happen overnight. But with time and lots of passion, you can create something truly special. That is the sentiment behind Jamala Wallace’s Whitmire, South Carolina home. Her 2,400-square-foot home is a haven for unique treasures, vintage finds, and family heirlooms that have high sentimental value. While lots of homes have these same kinds of items, Wallace’s intriguing decor style has a warmth that is truly distinctive.

Thrifting plays a big role in her design style, which she affectionately calls Afro-bohemian, and has shaped the overall aesthetic of her home. Of course, each room offers something different, but the vibes are consistent throughout the house. Whether it’s the antique furniture, ornate wall decor, or cowhide rugs, there’s no denying her affinity for antique touches and chic style.

Wallace prides herself on her thrifting abilities and has found many of her most prized possessions at vintage stores and estate sales. As any good thrifter knows, these shopping arenas are ideal for one-of-a-kind finds with value that often surpasses the price tag. When asked about the items in her home that she cherishes the most, Wallace recounts a dining room set that embraces her signature style. “I purchased the set in the 90s and paid about $1,200 for it back then, and it’s still with me now,” she says.

But when it comes to her favorite room, she tells Home & Texture that it is, without a doubt, her living room. Not only is it filled with vintage treasures, but it’s the space where her favorite pieces live. “In the living room, I have an antique chaise that is 200 years old. It’s the perfect piece of furniture that allows me to display my style and get creative,” she says. The room also stores a statement item that holds generational significance—her grandmother’s bar cabinet. She explains that both of these pieces are more than just decoration and are cherished dearly. “I feel blessed to have them in my collection and as part of my home’s design aesthetic.”
