As one of the most versatile spirits, tequila can be mixed with almost anything. We all know about the classic margaritas or a tequila sunrise, but pairing tequila with different flavors can give you an elevated and new experience. Whether you prefer a crisp blanco, the sweet caramel flavor of añejo or the rich vanilla of a mezcal, there’s nothing like that tequila flavor mixed with your favorite drinks and syrups.
Different from vodka, rum, whiskey or gin, tequila has an earthier, slightly sweeter and crisper taste. Tequila often pairs the best with citrus flavors, with a lime or lemon wedge often paired with a tequila shot.
Whether you’re looking for a drink for your next date night, party, game night, dinner or event, there are so many tequila combinations to experiment with. For some bartending inspo, here’s what mixes well with tequila for the most delicious cocktails.
Tequila Shot
Create your shot:
- Shot glass
- Tequila
- Lemon or lime wedge
Pour your tequila into your shot glass and take a shot. If the alcohol taste is hard to handle, combat it with a lime or lemon wedge.
Paloma
Create your cocktail:
- Tequila
- Fresh lime juice
- Grapefruit soda
- Slice of grapefruit
To a glass, add your ice, tequila and lime juice. Pour in your grapefruit soda and stir. Garnish your Paloma with a slice of grapefruit.
Classic Tequila Mojito
Create your cocktail:
- Tequila
- Fresh lime juice
- Mint leaves
- Simple syrup
- Mint syrup (optional)
- Sparkling water
In a glass, add your mint leaves, lime juice, simple syrup and mint syrup and muddle it together. Fill your glass with ice and top with your tequila and sparkling water. Stir to incorporate everything and garnish with mint leaves.
Tequila Sweet and Sour
Create your tequila sour:
- Tequila
- Simple syrup
- Sour mix
- Lemon Juice
- Sparkling water
- Lemon slice or wedge
Start by adding ice to your glass, then pour in about an ounce or so of simple syrup and sour mix. Next, add your lemon juice and tequila. Top with sparkling water and garnish with a lemon wedge.
Tequila in Paradise
Create your cocktail:
- Tequila
- Pineapple juice
- Blue Curacao
- Passionfruit juice
- Cherry (for garnish)
Start by adding a few of your main ingredients to your cocktail glass. First, add some ice to your glass. Then pour your tequila, pineapple juice and passionfruit juice in. Top with blue curacao and garnish with a cherry.
Pomegranate Margarita
Create your margarita:
- Tequila
- Lime juice
- Pomegranate juice
- Pomegranate liqueur or syrup (optional)
- Sugar (for rim)
- Pomegranate seeds (for garnish)
To your shaker, combine your ice, lime juice, tequila and pomegranate liqueur or syrup. Shake for about 20 seconds. Rim your martini glass using lime juice and sugar. Pour your martini into your glass and garnish with a few pomegranate seeds. The pomegranate flavor is sweet and mixes well with tequila
Frozen Mango-rita
Create your frozen treat:
- Tequila
- Lime Juice
- Frozen Mangoes
- Mango juice
- Ice
- Blender
- Fresh lime slice
- Sugar
In your blender, combine your tequila, lime juice, frozen mangoes, mango juice and ice. Blend until it’s smooth and creamy. Rim your margarita glass using sugar and lime juice. Pour your frozen mango margarita into your glass. Place a lime wedge on the side of your glass for garnish and enjoy your frozen treat. This drink is perfect for the summer and the mangoes mix well with tequila.
