Known for his film appearances and his satirical sketch comedy series The Chappelle Show, D.C. native Dave Chappelle was called the “comedic genius of America” by Esquire in 2006. Chappelle was also said to be “one of the 50 Best Stand Up Comics of All Time” by Rolling Stone in 2017. One of his early acting roles was an appearance in The Nutty Professor. Since then, he’s appeared in several films. A year earlier, he signed a comedy-special deal with Netflix, releasing six stand-up specials for $20-million-per-release. But during his downtime, where does Dave Chappelle live?
Ohio Is Where Chappelle Calls Home
Throughout his youth, Chappelle spent summers in Ohio where he now owns a home. His 3,154-square-foot residence sits on over 39 acres of farmland, surrounded by foliage. It holds three bedrooms and three-and-a-half bathrooms accommodating himself, his wife Elaine and three children, Suleyman, Ibrahim and Sanaa. Chappelle purchased his Ohio home in 2005, around the same time that he walked away from a $50 million deal with Comedy Central. Instead of sticking around to see-through the third season of The Chappelle Show, he chose his privacy and time with family.
Hollywood Hiatus and a Home Away From Home In South Africa
The beloved comedian decided to take a self-imposed hiatus from Hollywood. Since then, he’s expressed regret about not taking the deal, but also feeling like the time away was necessary. Chappelle spent that time away in South Africa. Few details have surfaced about whether he purchased a home in the country during that time. However, we do know that his disappearance from America and the comedy scene lasted for over five years, where he confirmed he was able to do things “which I can’t at home: think, eat, sleep, laugh.” Chappelle returned to America, the spotlight and a saturated industry in 2014. Signing his Netflix deal just two years later, he is now the owner of Iron Table Holdings, a real estate arm of his business enterprise.
Chappelle Owns a 52-Acre Site Near His 39-Acre Home Lot
In 2022, Iron Holdings Inc. purchased a 52-acre site near his home in Yellow Springs, Ohio. His purchase was met with approval and disapproval from locals and the city government. He’s built a comedy club and a restaurant on-site since purchasing the land, which included the former Yellow Springs Firehouse and Wiley’s Comedy Club. The 1992 founder of Pilot Boy Productions has hosted comedy shows and a documentary series. Chappelle plans to continue pouring into his neighborhood, helping mom-and-pop shops stick around while keeping the original, welcoming feel of Yellow Springs.
