Now that St. Patrick’s Day and Easter are behind us, it’s time to celebrate a new and more rare occasion. The Total Solar Eclipse is coming in full force this April, on April 8th, 2024 to be exact. This event doesn’t happen often, as 2017 was the last year we saw one. Even though the darkness of the eclipse will only be a few moments, you can add a little light to the party with a drink.

Make an event out of celebrating the total solar eclipse. If you’re hosting a party, finger foods, a charcuterie board, chips & dip or pizza can go a long way in making your guests happy. Adding a few drink recipes here and there won’t hurt either. Here’s your guide to making total solar eclipse cocktails.

Solar Eclipse Cocktail

Make this celebratory and sunny cocktail using only three ingredients.

What you’ll need:

  • Sparkling Clementine Juice
  • Dark Rum
  • Orange Slice (for garnish)
  • Ice

This cocktail is so easy to make and you don’t even need a shaker. Take your favorite glass and add some ice to it. Pour your sparkling clementine juice over the ice in your glass. Then top the drink with some dark rum. This ombré cocktail is delicious and festive for the solar eclipse.

Orange Solar Eclipse Cocktail

This solar eclipse cocktail has a citrus flavor and is brown with hints of an orange color.

What you’ll need:

  • Patron XO Cafe
  • Orange Soda
  • Fresh Lemon Juice
  • Simple Syrup
  • Blood Orange (for garnish)
  • Ice

Another easy recipe that doesn’t require a shaker, start off by adding some ice to your cocktail glass. Pour your ingredients in your glass and stir. Garnish with a blood orange slice. If you can’t find a blood orange, use a regular orange slice for garnish.

Tequila Sunrise

What you’ll need:

  • Orange juice
  • Blanco tequila
  • Grenadine
  • Orange slice (for garnish)
  • 1 Maraschino cherry (for garnish)

A tequila sunrise is a staple drink on every brunch menu and the perfect cocktail for a solar eclipse party. To your glass, add your ice, tequila and orange juice. Top with grenadine, it’ll sink to the bottom to create the sunrise effect. Garnish with an orange slice and a cherry.

Black Margarita

Use tequila to make your black margarita for a refreshing solar eclipse cocktail. Pictured: tequila

What you’ll need:

  • Tequila
  • Triple sec
  • Melon liqueur
  • Grenadine
  • Lime juice
  • Black food coloring
  • Sugar for rim
  • Ice

To make your black margarita, start by making some black sugar to rim your glass. Mix some sugar, black food coloring and lime juice, then rim your glass with the black sugar. To a shaker, add your ice, tequila, triple sec, melon liqueur, grenadine, lime juice and a little bit of black food coloring. Shake for about 20 seconds. Pour your black margarita in your glass and enjoy.
