In a 2,500-square-foot house in Dallas, Texas, Lincoln Stephens has built a sanctuary that honors the past while embracing the present. His space, which he describes as “AfroRustic,” is a testament to the power of intentional design and personal expression, particularly for Black men navigating identity, fatherhood, and creativity.

After going through a divorce, Lincoln faced the challenge of creating a new sense of self while providing comfort and stability for his son. “I had to find a sense of myself and my personal expression that provided comfort and peace for my son and me,” he explains. The result is a home that feels like a museum—one that pays homage to ancestors while recognizing modernity and spirituality.

Every corner of Lincoln’s home tells a story. His art collection, largely commissioned or purchased from galleries, alongside heirloom pieces, creates a narrative that spans generations. The furniture, sourced from retailers like Wayfair and carefully curated antique finds, blends accessibility with authenticity.

Walking through Lincoln’s 2-bedroom, 3-bathroom home and its accompanying bungalow (which serves as a pool house and office), visitors encounter a living, breathing archive. The space doesn’t just showcase good taste—it tells the story of a man who understands that where we live shapes who we become.

“It is filled with history, almost like a museum,” Lincoln says. But unlike a traditional museum, this one is lived in, played in by his son and dog, and constantly evolving. It’s where spirituality meets the everyday, where ancestors walk alongside the living, and where one man’s vision creates a blueprint for how Black men can claim space—both physical and creative—on their own terms.
