Late-night scrolling through TikTok has become our new way of discovering home design trends. From bold wallpaper choices to statement paint colors, social media completely changed how we find and fall in love with home decor ideas. While some of these trends might make us cringe in a few years, others have genuinely captured our hearts and homes.

As we’re approaching 2025, many of us are sitting on our (possibly trendy) couches, thinking about which design choices we actually love and which ones we’re secretly hoping will fade away. It’s similar to cleaning out your closet — some pieces are keepers, while others make you wonder what you were thinking.

The truth about home design is that it’s deeply personal, just like fashion. Just because everyone’s doing something doesn’t mean it works for you. Maybe you absolutely love that vintage wallpaper your friends think is outdated, or perhaps you can’t get behind the current obsession with curved furniture. That’s completely okay—your home should tell your story, not someone else’s.

But alas, we’re on track to tell the story of those whose tastes align with ours, and with that said, we’re rounding up the top few trends we’re kicking to the curb in 2025.

Overdone Maximalism

As color theories and paint trends evolve, the emphasis is shifting toward simplicity in interior design. While many spaces have become overwhelmed with multiple design elements, creating visual chaos, the current trend favors a more refined approach. Rather than displaying every book, photo album, and piece of artwork, consider relocating excess items to storage. This allows color drenching to take center stage, creating a more cohesive and visually appealing environment.

Faux Materials

Quality and authenticity are timeless principles in design that consistently outshine imitations. Rather than investing in artificial materials like faux marble or synthetic woods, it’s worth considering genuine materials for their lasting appeal and superior aesthetics. When contemplating a significant investment like marble for your space, concerns about maintenance and durability are natural. Our advice is to do a lot of research and never stop. What the professionals can’t tell you in real-time, TikTok or YouTube can.

Bouclé Aesthetics

That beige, bouclé side chair or armchair is getting a pink slip in 2025. We’re not here for it any longer. While the bouclé material is here to stay, the social media mania around certain chairs and furnishings made from this material is not.
