Erika Hardison is a staff writer for Home & Texture with a focus on home, art and culture. She currently writes Home & Texture’s homeownership news, home design trends and profile features. Erika’s work has been featured in several lifestyle and pop culture publications, including USA Today, HuffPo, Elite Daily, Book Riot and more. Erika was born and raised on the South Side of Chicago where she was immersed in art and Black culture by her immediate family and community. Erika fell in love with art and design and attended Long Island University where she initially majored in art education. However, the stars had other plans for her. Erika soon found herself excelling effortlessly in communication which prompted her to change her major to journalism. Since then, she's worked as a makeup artist, publicist, a social media manager and a freelance writer. When Erika isn't writing at Blavity she's working on Fabulize—an online and print magazine for Black feminist nerds. Erika is also an aspiring novelist and a vocal advocate for diverse literature and comics.
