Le Creuset cookware has earned its spot on countless stovetops thanks to its colorful enamel finish, reliable performance, and long-lasting durability. But to keep it looking as good as it cooks, you’ll want to be thoughtful about how you clean it. Whether you’ve just simmered a rich stew or baked a crusty loaf of sourdough, here’s how to care for your Le Creuset the right way.

Start With Gentle Cleaning

Once your cookware has cooled (never run cold water into a hot pan), wash it with warm water, a mild dish soap, and a nonabrasive sponge. The enamel coating doesn’t need seasoning like traditional cast iron, but it does need a gentle touch to avoid scratches.

For Stains and Stuck-On Food

To tackle stubborn residue, fill the pan with warm water and a splash of dish soap or baking soda, then let it soak for 15-20 minutes. You can also simmer the solution to loosen any baked-on residue. For tougher spots, create a paste with baking soda and water, then scrub gently using a soft sponge.

Dishwasher? It Depends

While Le Creuset claims its enameled cast iron is dishwasher-safe, hand-washing is recommended for maintaining the glossy finish. Frequent dishwasher cycles may cause dulling over time.

A Few Don’ts

Skip bleach and harsh chemicals, which can degrade the enamel. Avoid steel wool or abrasive scrubbers. To prevent chipping, store your pieces with care—layer soft cloths or pan protectors between items when stacking.

Don’t Ignore the Exterior

That glossy, colorful coating is part of what makes Le Creuset special. Clean the outside with a soft cloth and gentle cleaner. For tougher stains on the bottom or sides, try a nonabrasive cleaner.

Long-Term Care Pays Off

Cleaning your Le Creuset doesn’t have to be complicated. A little extra attention after each use can help it last for years, and look just as good displayed on the stove as it does during Sunday dinner.
