Before Gaetan “GK” launched Perhaps Gallery, he was just trying to redecorate his apartment.
It was a couple of years ago—he had just graduated, was working in finance, and wanted to make his place feel more like him. He went to IKEA, but nothing really stuck. Then he remembered a design he’d drawn: a sneaker, melting and warped, to reflect how his love for sneaker culture had faded over time. He made it, shared it, and the internet did the rest.
That piece—SKULPT – AF1—was his first viral hit. It’s now completely sold out in all three colors. But it laid the foundation for a creative journey that’s turned this Cameroonian-born, Canada-based 25-year-old into a rising name in the art and design world.
“I don’t really consider myself a designer,” he says. “I’m just a guy with ideas.”
From NFTs to Incense Holders
Perhaps Gallery is now in its second year and thriving. GK still works full-time in finance, but his off-hours are spent designing and building original home goods that blend his love for culture, mythology, and intentional design.
One of his most popular pieces is an incense holder—a sculptural bust that evokes Greek and Roman statues, but with one key difference: the figure wears a durag.
“I wanted something that looked like a classic sculpture, but also felt familiar,” he explains. “You’re not going to see this in everybody’s house.”
The piece is hand-drawn by GK himself, then turned into a 3D model, molded, and produced in small batches. It’s currently in its fourth drop—and sells out every time.
White Gloves, Black Art
When you order from Perhaps Gallery, the first thing you notice (after the sculptural detail) is the packaging. Each item comes with a set of white gloves.
“I read that Apple spends millions designing the iPhone unboxing experience,” GK says. “I wanted the same kind of feeling. Something that feels elevated—but still attainable.”
The gloves aren’t just for effect. They’re a nod to the kind of care he wants people to show their pieces. “When you handle art, you wear gloves. So I want my customers to feel like they’re receiving something special. Not just an object, but something they’ll protect, display, and pass on.”
For the melted shoe design, he went even further—each was part of a limited edition of 100, shipped with a certificate of authenticity, and will never be made again.
The Future of Perhaps Gallery
Despite the popularity of his early designs, GK is thinking long-term. He has more than 40 product ideas in the pipeline and plans to release seven new pieces in 2025—including two drops coming in the next few weeks.
But he’s also thinking bigger.
“I’d love to design furniture. Chairs. Cutlery. Maybe even a custom sofa,” he says. “My dream? A Black-owned, cooler IKEA. Something that feels like us.”
Right now, he’s working with a team of creatives to bring his concepts to life. He leads on design, but he calls it a gallery because collaboration is baked into the brand’s DNA.
Even the name Perhaps reflects his mindset: hopeful, open, curious. “I was working on NFTs at the time, and I just thought, ‘Perhaps this will work.’”
Two years in—it’s working.
