Say Goodbye to Clutter With These Easy Spring Cleaning Tips

Out with the old and in with the new.

The transition from winter to spring is one most people look forward to for months. Not only does it mean warm, sunny weather is on the horizon, but it also brings a sense of renewal. Spring is all about embracing new and fresh energy and putting the drab days of winter behind you. One of the best ways to do this is refreshing your home.

To be clear, I’m not talking about redecorating, though that is always fun this time of year. By refreshing your home, I mean taking stock of its surroundings and adjusting things for the season to come. Winter and spring couldn’t be more different. Aside from the temperature, the seasons evoke completely different moods and feelings.

Keeping a level head and starting the season with new energy is important. While you’re transitioning your wardrobe in preparation for warmer weather, it’s also a good time to prep your home. Ahead, we’ve compiled five key tips to make your home spring ready.

Clean Your Air Conditioner

The negative result of neglecting this step is one I can attest to personally. As someone who leaves their air conditioner unit in year-round, cleaning it after winter has ended is a necessity. While the unit isn’t being used during the colder months, it’s collecting lots of dust and debris that can be dispersed once it’s turned on, causing all sorts of issues for those with seasonal allergies. To prevent this from occurring, take a moment before spring arrives to clean the vents and change the filter.

Clean Windows and Window Sills

Similar to your air conditioner, your windows have probably not been used for months. In short, they’re a hotbed for dust. Before you start opening them to let in natural light and air, why not give them a good cleaning? Beyond your typical duster, opt for a spray cleaner with disinfectant to get rid of any harsh agents that may have accumulated on the surface.

Swap Out Pillows & Throws

Changing your sheets and towels come spring is a given. But swapping out your couch pillows and throws is an option that can lift the mood of the room. It’s time to put those cozy fleece and cashmere throws into storage and opt for something lighter in texture and color. The same goes for your pillows. Look for covers that embrace the fresh tones and airy feel of spring.

Invest in a Humidifier

Humidifiers are ideal for moistening dry air from indoor heat during the winter, but they’re just as beneficial during the spring. As the seasons change, adjusting the humidity in your home can help decrease allergens and keep the room cool. There are lots of different styles to choose from, but a unit with an automated setting is your best bet.

Organize Your Refrigerator

Ok, this may sound unnecessary for spring, but hear me out. Winter cooking is all about making hearty dishes that will give you leftovers for days. Stews, pot roasts, and casseroles are just a few of the comforting foods that fall into this category. With spring on the horizon, you may be cooking a bit more, meaning it’s time to purge those tubs of leftovers. Take stock of the foods and dishes in your refrigerator that you can utilize and say goodbye to those that you can’t. Trust us, you’ll be glad that you did in the long run.
