Whoopi Goldberg is a New Yorker through and through. Born in Chelsea, Manhattan, the Academy Award-winning actress is known for her roles in “The Color Purple,” “For Colored Girls,” “The Lion King,” and a long list of films and television shows. She is one of 19 EGOT winners, having an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony Award.
Not only does Goldberg have a large amount of acting experience (probably more than any actor that we can think of), she’s also been a host of “The View” since 2007. The show features Goldberg and a panel of other celebrities discussing hot or controversial topics.
Along with being an actor and television host, she’s also an author of many books. Her most recent book, “Bits and Pieces: My Mother, My Brother, and Me,” is an emotionally vulnerable exploration of her relationship with her family. With Goldberg being an incredible actor in the Hollywood space, one might assume that she lives there. Because “The View” films in New York City, does she have a home there as well? Here’s your guide on figuring out where Whoopi Goldberg lives.
Where Does Whoopi Goldberg Live?
After living in New York for a few years with her job as a host for “The View,” Goldberg decided to go across the water to New Jersey, in hopes of a quieter lifestyle. She purchased a $2.8 million mansion in Llewellyn Park, a large gated community. The historic mansion was built in 1927. While there are very few details about the mansion, it does feature a large collection of artwork.
A few years after she moved to Los Angeles in 1985, Goldberg was on her feet and able to purchase a $335,000 Victorian-style house built in the 1890s. The two-story home was around 1,455 square feet and featured New Orleans-style architecture. She sold the home for $2 million in 2015.
Goldberg decided to venture into another Los Angeles neighborhood, purchasing a $2.5 million home in the Pacific Palisades. She bought the five-bedroom, seven-bathroom art deco home in 1993. Featuring marble flooring, a swimming pool, a library and a guest house, Goldberg sold the home in 2018 for $8.8 million.
Her Other Properties
With her buying multiple properties in Los Angeles, Goldberg felt it was time for her to venture out of the state. Wanting a vacation home to relax in, Goldberg opted for a charming Vermont home. The $950,000 home was purchased by the actress in 2003 and is 6,100 square feet. Featuring four bedrooms and three bathrooms, a brick fireplace and a horse barn, Goldberg used this home as the ultimate getaway from the city. She let go of the property for $1.5 million in 2012.
After becoming a host of “The View” in 2007, Goldberg returned to New York in style, purchasing a SoHo loft for $4 million. Most celebrities choose the SoHo area because of access to shopping and restaurants, along with luxury apartments. The loft featured high ceilings, marble flooring and a chef’s kitchen. Whoopi Goldberg sold the property for less than $3 million in 2010 to venture out of Manhattan.
