This Is How You Can Make Your Kitchen Knives Last as Long as Possible

A chef’s number one tool might just be the kitchen knife, or their collection of knives to master slicing and dicing for their next tasty meal. If you’re somewhat of a kitchen accessory enthusiast yourself, you know that knives—really good knives—can come with a pretty big price tag. Or, maybe you’ve been gifted a set and are excited to put them to use. Either way, while they’re often durable, maintaining and caring for them properly is something that shouldn’t be overlooked.

Kitchen Knife Care Essentials

As a whole, a well-maintained knife just makes your life easier in the kitchen. It makes prep work smoother, and if you take care of them, you’ll have them for a lifetime. On top of that, well-maintained knives are safer to use. Dull blades are more prone to slipping, increasing the likelihood of accidents in the kitchen. Here’s how to get started.

Step 1: Wash gently

After each use, show your knives some love by giving them a gentle wash with warm, soapy water. Avoid harsh scrubbing or throwing them in the dishwasher. Those blades deserve a more delicate touch!

Step 2: Dry with TLC.

Once your knives are sparkling clean, delicately pat them dry with a soft towel. Remember, moisture is the enemy here! Leaving your knives damp can lead to unsightly rust and corrosion, and that’s the last thing you want in your kitchen lineup.
