When it comes to determining what flowers and plants you should add to your home, you have a wide variety of colors, textures, and fragrances to choose from. But have you considered using your astrological sign as a guide? Many aspiring plant parents are using their zodiac signs to find the perfect houseplants for them.

Instead of selecting plants that are most popular, try finding house plants that best fit your personality. Better Homes & Gardens even asked astrologer Clarisse Monahan for her input on matching your zodiac sign with house plants, and here are the results.

Below you will find the plants grouped by their elements. As a group, you can mix and match if you ever want to tap into your moon and rising zodiac signs, too.

Water Signs

Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces make up the water signs in the zodiac chart. These signs are known for being sensitive and don’t like letting things, people, and in this case plants, go. So for water signs, it’s best to pick house plants that require little effort to grow and bloom. Plants such as the ZZ Plant, snake plant, money tree, lucky bamboo, jasmine, and dracaena plants are some of the best choices. “This is a power plant well known in feng shui to not only bring a peaceful and wise energy into your home, but also to attract luck, great health, and more love,” Monahan said about the lucky bamboo plant.

Air Signs

Libra, Aquarius, and Gemini make up the air element of the zodiac and are noted to be vulnerable people. These signs also need ample space to grow and evolve, similar to their plants. Look for plants like monstera, English ivy, string of pearls, pothos, and philodendron to fill your home with. “These plants look great in hanging baskets, perfect for this air sign that likes things breezy,” Monahan said about the English ivy.

Earth Signs

Taurus, Capricorn, and Virgo are all part of the earth element, and out of all the signs, these tend to be the most practical. Earth signs are generally good at organizing and being grounded. That’s why plants such as the rubber tree, bonsai, fiddle leaf tree, heart leaf philodendron, jade plant, and banana plant make great plant friends for them. “Attention to detail and care is what Virgo does best, which makes the opulent (though fussy) banana plant a good match,” Monahan says.

Fire Signs

Leo, Aries, and Sagittarius are all fire signs, and out of all the elements, they are the most passionate. Additionally, they can also be the most stubborn. Therefore, these zodiac signs should pick houseplants that reflect their sometimes chaotic energy. Plants such as succulents, bromeliad, alocasia, baseball plants, zebra plants, and amaryllis tend to work best for these signs.
