Before this makeover, the small empty corner appeared to have limited potential that maybe some wall art and a tall indoor plant, gorgeous modern planter combination could fix. The result, however, completely defies expectations. Instead of choosing a simplistic design solution, the homeowner requested something out of the box — a study area to read, relax, and work. With that direction, the designer, obviously up for the challenge, created this colorful, cozy nook.

First Things First: The Wallpaper
To give this corner a DIY facelift, the designer began by measuring the wall from each end. After removing the outlets, he installed a “funky millennial grandma-inspired” peel-and-stick wallpaper. The botanical print’s rich color palette with hints of pale pink, muted browns, and varying shades of green throughout added a distinct element. The contrast between the redesigned corner and the other walls in the dining room, which were kept as the corner’s original grayish-blue color, created a visually appealing border.
Adding Storage and Seating
Limited space necessitated a creative storage installation, and with interior design expertise and flair, the designer built a uniform wall-length look with black floating shelves. Since the corner’s measurements weren’t ideal for a daybed, two oversized olive green sofa ottomans acted as the lounge seating to create a makeshift one.
Don’t Forget the Finishing Touches
Lastly, the designer incorporated personality into the space, making it feel lived in, welcoming, and inviting. Some mismatched textured throw pillows, a geometric side table, cherished family photos, and shelf filler items really took the space to the next level.
These additions reveal the impact creativity and resourcefulness have on a home. When attempting a DIY project like this in your home, it’s essential to consider the possibilities of curating a space that feels like a dream and looks like something out of an interior design book. Sometimes, it’s surprising to imagine how little it takes to build a gorgeous, captivating interior. With a vision and a few tools, you too can create a stylistic masterpiece in your own home.
