Think about your 4-8 cubed storage unit that is probably taking up space under your television or in your room, filled with baskets, used for irrelevant paperwork or mail, and just downright cluttered. Take this opportunity and transform it into something functional, like a coffee bar. If you’re not a coffee drinker, no worries! Use it for tea or wine, and create your own bar area with your cubed storage unit. Here’s what you’ll need:
Materials Needed
- Paint
- Paintbrush
- Storage legs (4)
- Personal decor pieces
- Coffee or wine rack holder
- Suitable primer
From Cube Storage to Bar
The great thing about this project is that the hard work is already done. There will be no building of anything. Just stylish additions to make what was old, new.Β Follow these steps to turn your old piece of furniture into a practical and functional bar.
Prepare Your Storage Unit
Before you get started, it’s important that you prep your unit.
- Make sure that you remove all the clutter that you don’t need.
- Clean the unit thoroughly.
- Keep an eye on the furniture while cleaning to catch any defects that may need repairing before you move on.
- Sand the surfaces.
- Apply primer.
Add Legs
To repurpose this coffee bar, you’ll need a lift with legs. Find legs that fit a cube storage. There are numerous sizes and designs that you can choose from. Therefore, it’s important to have a vision of how you’d like your coffee bar to look. From modern to traditional to chic, the choice is yours. Depending on the legs you purchase for your piece, it should include the instructions. Carefully read the instructions to properly and securely attach each leg.
Paint (Optional)
Painting is optional, but if you’re looking for a fresh new look, you should consider this step. A fresh coat of paint can go a long way in improving the look or feel of any piece of furniture. Move your cube into an area that you’re okay with getting paint splats onβthis will get a little messy. Use newspaper or old towels to lay down and catch the mess in case of spills.
For a modern look, black or white is an ideal color. If you want this coffee bar to be bold and vibrant, use fun colors that reflect your personality. Bring out your art skills and implement new patterns and design styles.
Coffee Racks or Holders
To hold your favorite mugs or wine bottles and glasses, you’ll need rack holders. Grab your tools to apply the holders in the top cubes. The top two cubes are closer to grab when you prepare your coffee. Keep in mind how many actual mugs you have and what you plan on using. This will help determine how many racks you need to buy.
Insert Baskets for Storage
If your cube has enough cubicles, use pull-out baskets for storage. Store extra coffee, hand towels, and anything else you think would be useful for preparing your beverage of choice. Baskets are a great way to stay clean and organized, providing a special place for everything.
Add Bar Essentials
Now, it’s time to decorate your bar with decor and essentials. These pieces will look different for each drinker, but you can’t go wrong with cute, fun, trinket pieces that reflect your style and personality. Use flowers, family photos, books, and more! If you want to add some greenery, think about mini faux plants. Have fun with your decor choices and don’t be afraid to use items you normally wouldn’t.
