Sheila Johnson, co-founder of the BET network, first Black American billionaire and author, has finally sold her 14.2-acre estate. Known as Salamander Farm, the Wellington, Virginia, property spans across three parcels.

The property initially was listed for $35 million, but after being on the market for a year, it sold for $21.7 million.

According to The Real Deal, official records state that Johnson’s 3531 Olde Hampton Drive LLC sold the massive estate to Shady Grove Road Commercial Properties LLC. Michael Hall was the representative of Shady Grove Road Commercial Properties, but the true identity of the buyer remains unknown.

Maria Mendelsohn of the Douglas Elliman real estate group represented both the buyer and seller in the deal. Elliman has a history of dealing with high-profile real estate properties across the country.

A Closer Look at Her Equestrian Estate

The Salamander Farm is nothing short of Southern comfort and luxury. Originally, Johnson purchased the property in 2000 with her now ex-husband and BET co-founder, Robert Johnson. At the time of purchase, they bought the property for $940,500, according to official documents. When the couple divorced in 2020, Sheila Johnson became the sole owner of the property. Then, she purchased the surrounding parcels for roughly $3 million each. Altogether, she spent about $4 million for the estate.

The Johnson house spans across 7,000 square feet. It has a total of 13 rooms with seven bedrooms and one powder room. The public real estate documents also state that the property has full equestrian luxuries and accommodations, such as a 20-stall horse stable, a covered horse walker, a grass-covered jumping field and a sand arena.
