We’ve all been there—falling head over heels for a stunning piece of furniture that would transform our living space, only to be shocked back to reality by the eye-watering price tag. That perfect coffee table, the ideal accent chair, or the statement lighting fixture that seems to speak directly to your soul… until it speaks to your wallet.

For many of us, luxury furniture remains just beyond reach, forcing compromises on quality, design, or aesthetic to accommodate our budgets. We find ourselves settling for mass-produced alternatives that never quite capture the magic of those designer pieces we truly desire. The frustration is real—knowing exactly what would complete your space but being unable to justify the expense.

That’s where creator Eryn (@everythingeryn) comes in with a game-changing approach that’s revolutionizing how we think about high-end furniture. Rather than accepting the reality that designer pieces are only for those with unlimited budgets, Eryn has mastered the art of creating stunning replicas that capture the essence of luxury furniture at a fraction of the cost. Her philosophy is refreshingly straightforward: “One thing about me, I’m going to DIY it before I buy it.”

How Eryn Transformed an Expensive Coffee Table into an Affordable DIY Project

When Eryn discovered the Plinth Coffee Table from Design Within Reach, she immediately fell in love with its elegant design—but not with its substantial price tag. Instead of giving up on her dream furniture piece, she saw an opportunity to create something special. In a recent video, Eryn revealed that she crafted this beautiful coffee table replica for the winner of her Dream Room contest.

The project began with a sketch mimicking the expensive coffee table’s design. We then follow her journey to Home Depot, where the transformation began to take shape. Interestingly, Eryn mentions that the contest winner had also wanted a plant stand but couldn’t find anything suitable under $500. In true DIY fashion, Eryn decided to tackle both projects.

For the coffee table’s skeleton, Eryn utilized pipe shears to create the foundation. She then constructed a wooden outline for the table before incorporating the pipe shears as structural elements, securing everything with construction adhesive. The finishing touch came in the form of rock sheets ordered from Amazon, which she attached using wood glue after cutting them to size with regular scissors.

To ensure everything held together properly during the drying process, Eryn applied tape to the rock sheets and left the piece outside for several hours. The result was nothing short of remarkable—a stunning replica of the high-end coffee table that would be at home in any designer showroom. For those looking to customize their own version, Eryn suggests that contact paper or wallpaper can be excellent alternatives to rock sheets, offering even more possibilities for personalization.
