As families across the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia region (DMV) navigate economic uncertainty and the ripple effects of recent government shutdowns, many are facing difficult decisions about their Thanksgiving tables. For thousands of households, the prospect of going without a traditional holiday meal has become an unfortunate reality. But Thompson Restaurants has a solution that addresses both the immediate need and the broader crisis of food insecurity affecting our community.

The restaurant group is giving back in a significant way this season with the return of its annual “Meals with Meaning” initiative. This program offers more than just convenience for busy families preparing for the holidays—it creates a direct pathway for the community to support neighbors in need. Through this initiative, guests can enjoy exceptional, chef-crafted holiday feasts from their favorite Thompson Restaurants brands while simultaneously helping to nourish families across the region who might otherwise go without.

The timing couldn’t be more critical. With federal workers and contractors still recovering from recent budget impasses and many families reassessing their holiday spending, food insecurity rates have climbed throughout the area. Thompson Restaurants recognized this growing need and expanded their partnership with the Northwest Federal Credit Union (NWFCU) Foundation to deliver meaningful relief during the season when it matters most.

A Partnership with Purpose

Thompson Restaurants has joined forces with NWFCU Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to empowering youth through comprehensive programs focused on health, well-being, and education. Through this strategic partnership, the restaurant group will coordinate the delivery of donated Thanksgiving meals directly to local shelters and families experiencing food insecurity throughout the DMV region.

“Giving back is part of our DNA at Thompson Hospitality,” said Warren Thompson, president and chairman of Thompson Hospitality. “Thanksgiving Meals with Meaning brings our restaurants and guests together to support families in need. At a time when food insecurity is affecting so many, this program allows us and our guests to make a meaningful impact; it is also a reminder that we’re all in this together.”

Two Ways to Make an Impact

Thompson Restaurants has designed the program to be accessible and flexible, offering guests multiple ways to participate based on their individual circumstances and preferences. Whether you’re planning your own family gathering or looking to give back to the community, the initiative makes it simple to be part of the solution.

Order a Feast For Your Family: Guests can purchase a completely prepared holiday meal featuring the beloved dishes from Thompson Restaurants’ family of brands. Each feast is thoughtfully curated to include all the traditional Thanksgiving favorites, expertly prepared by professional chefs. Customers can select from signature sides offered by Milk & Honey, Matchbox, Makers Union, and Ms. Peach’s—the restaurants that have become DMV dining destinations. For those who want to customize their spread or supplement their own cooking, individual sides are available for purchase separately, allowing maximum flexibility in meal planning.

Donate a Meal to a Family in Need: For those who want to make a direct impact on food insecurity in the region, Thompson Restaurants offers a straightforward donation option. A contribution of $50 provides a complete Thanksgiving dinner for two people, while $100 feeds a family of four. Every donation guarantees that a family experiencing food insecurity receives a full, traditional Thanksgiving meal delivered with dignity and care. These donated meals include all the essential components of a holiday feast, ensuring that no family has to choose between paying bills and putting food on the table during what should be a time of gratitude and togetherness.

Feast Options:

Classic Feast – $145: Oven-Roasted Turkey Breast or Glazed Ham, homemade gravy, traditional cranberry sauce, biscuits or cornbread, and three sides: Matchbox mashed potatoes, Matchbox garlic & herb stuffing, Matchbox honey glazed carrots, Milk & Honey mac & cheese, Milk & Honey collard greens, Milk & Honey yams, Makers Union brussels sprouts, or Makers Union garlic green beans.

Deluxe Feast – $175: All of the above, plus an additional side and a choice of dessert: Ms. Peach’s Pecan Pie, Pumpkin Pie, or Apple Pie.

Extra Sides – $17 each: Choose from the full menu of sides above.

Extra Desserts – $22 each: Ms. Peach’s Pecan Pie, Pumpkin Pie, or Apple Pie.

All feasts serve 4-6 people and include tax.

How to Participate

Thompson Restaurants has streamlined the ordering process to ensure maximum convenience during the busy holiday season. Customers are encouraged to place their orders online by Friday, November 21, at 12 p.m. to guarantee availability. All meals will be ready for pick-up on Wednesday, November 26, giving families ample time to prepare for their Thanksgiving celebrations without the stress of last-minute cooking.

The online ordering platform on the brand’s home website offers a user-friendly interface, allowing customers to browse feast options, customize their selections, and complete their purchases in just a few clicks. The same platform facilitates meal donations, making it equally simple to contribute to families in need.
