Curating a welcoming space is something that comes naturally to many people. However, when interior design is your professional area of expertise, creating a space of intent takes on a whole new meaning. For BaSharia Middleton, it’s all about the art of mixing. In her Dallas apartment, you’ll find a thoughtful blend of vintage pieces and playful, elegant items that make up her glamorous style.
As an interior designer at a luxury rug company, Middleton is no stranger to the revolving door of decor trends. But while the list of minimalist looks is growing by the second, she’s stayed true to her love of maximalism and old-world glamour. “I love combining old and new, layering textures and patterns, to make a space feel like a true escape. Around each corner there’s a touch of tradition, but always with a bold, unexpected twist,” she says.

Her one-bedroom and one-bath apartment does just that. With just 669 square feet to work with, she’s found a way to fill the space with life with the help of color, texture, and greenery. Each room is truly unique and gives a different ambiance when entered. The bathroom stands out with splashes of peach and cranberry that pop against the dark jade green tile backsplash. While the contrast would be more than enough to make a statement, Middleton took the liberty to infuse the room with her charming style. The walls above and adjacent to the toilet were the perfect place for a gallery wall of vintage frames, retro art, and decorative mirrors.
The Room Where Vintage-Glam Style Comes to Life
The bedroom is another space where her vintage-glam style comes to life. Instead of a traditional headboard, she’s opted for an accent wall in a fun black and white palm print. Large round mirrors flank the sides of the bed, while an oversized fan, positioned in the center of the wall just above the bed, provides a focal point for the room. Though the kitchen walls sport a soft gray color, there are plenty of cool gems to be found throughout the space—think a crocodile rug and hot pink neon signs.
“Every piece tells a story, whether it’s a vintage find, a family heirloom, or a DIY project,” says Middleton. She tells Home & Texture that her space is designed to be immersive and full of personality. While she typically shops at vintage shops and estate sales, she notes she doesn’t rule out retail sources, like City Home, HomeGoods, Ikea, Society6, and Amazon. “My couch from City Home was the biggest investment. It cost $1,765, but it was worth every penny because it anchors my living room and brings so much personality to the space.”
Blending traditional decor with her one-of-a-kind pieces is a big part of what makes her home unique and filled with character. “My goal is to always be unexpected. Every time someone visits, I want them to notice something they hadn’t seen before.”
